Sunderland face Port Vale in the FA Cup on Sunday with suspensions and injuries ruling out several first-teamers. According to Sunderland Echo, Régis Le Bris will be without 10 senior players for the fifth-round tie.

Trai Hume is banned after bookings in both of Sunderland’s FA Cup wins this season. Noah Sadiki is also suspended after two cautions in the competition.

Sunderland do not yet know the full extent of Bertrand Traore’s knee injury, though he faces weeks on the sidelines. He is definitely out of the next few matches.

Robin Roefs is facing two to three weeks out with a minor hamstring problem. A return in time to face Newcastle is hoped for, but only if treatment brings a positive response.

The longer-term picture is brighter, with several key players now nearing returns later this month. That could bolster the squad for important fixtures to come.
