SportDog claims Sunderland are interested in Paraguay midfielder Matias Galarza after the World Cup round-of-16 defeat to France, settled by a Kylian Mbappe penalty.
With current Black Cats star Omar Alderete and former Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron in the starting line-up, Gustavo Alfaro’s side went out as Mbappe’s spot-kick proved decisive. Paraguay’s approach drew criticism for persistent disruption.
France coach Didier Deschamps said he would not criticise the referee or Paraguay, noted his team finished with three bookings amid flashpoints, and added he could have done without insults. He stressed the key was qualification and that there were no incidents at the end.
Galarza was singled out after a first-half clash with Mbappe that pundit Joe Hart suggested could have been a red card.
The 24-year-old plays for CA Talleres in Argentina and previously spent two years with Genk, featuring in qualifying rounds of the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.
The report names Olympiakos and Getafe as leading contenders for his signature, with Monza and Strasbourg also in the frame. Galarza has more than two years left on his Talleres contract.
