Sunderland sign Republic of Ireland international forward Sheva

Sunderland have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland international forward Marissa Sheva on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via a media update from The Lady Black Cats this morning.

It has been reported that Sheva has initially signed on with Sunderland until the end of next season.

The 27-year-old joins the Wearsiders off the back of a spell with American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Portland Thorns. Sheva made six appearances for Thorns in the 2024 NWSL, helping the team to record a finish in the top half of the table.

The attacker started her senior career in Spain with Deportivo Alavés Gloriosas before playing her football Stateside. Sheva has turned out for Utah Royals, Washington Spirit and latest club Portland Thorns in the United States.

On the international stage, Sheva has been capped by the Republic of Ireland on 12 occasions. She represented her country at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023. She scored her first goal for The Girls In Green as they defeated Georgia 6-0 in October 2024.

It is not yet known whether Sheva will be available to make her Sunderland debut this weekend when The Lady Black Cats take on Charlton Athletic at The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.
