Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki has set out why he committed to DR Congo rather than Belgium, as England await at the World Cup.
Born in Belgium, he rose through Anderlecht’s academy, played up to under-20 level and debuted for the seniors under Vincent Kompany.
He chose DR Congo in 2023 and has since become an important figure for the Leopards.
“My choice of DR Congo did not go down well at home, and my parents did not understand why,” he said, speaking to Olympics.com earlier this year.
“That’s why I’m one of the first of my generation to openly choose Congo - because I know it could open doors for others.”
His remarks have resurfaced before DR Congo’s meeting with England, where the Sunderland player could face several Premier League names.
Sunderland signed Sadiki from Union Saint-Gilloise last summer.
