Sunderland are weighing attacking reinforcements, with Kerim Alajbegović and Mariano Troilo linked, while Liverpool’s stance on Lutsharel Geertruida could aid their plans.
Geertruida joined on loan from RB Leipzig in September 2025 and featured 30 times, totalling 1,865 minutes. According to Voetbal International, he currently has no contact with Liverpool after Arne Slot’s exit and Andoni Iraola’s arrival, which may strengthen Sunderland if they pursue a permanent deal.
Alajbegović, 18, impressed for Salzburg in 2025-26 with 44 appearances, 13 goals and four assists, and has boosted his profile with Bosnia’s World Cup push. Leverkusen have re-signed him but his future is uncertain, with Roma understood to have discussed a €30 million, about £25.9 million, bid. He is said to be open to Italy, Leverkusen have yet to respond, and Sunderland are among the English clubs monitoring an ambitious move.
Sunderland also retain interest in Parma centre-back Troilo, who made 23 appearances and scored the winner at AC Milan. Fulham are reportedly preparing an offer worth €20 million, around £17.2 million, and Parma are not under pressure to sell after paying about €7 million, close to £6 million, in 2025.
Former Black Cats winger Jack Diamond is attracting attention after a strong season at Stockport County. Portsmouth and Lincoln City are watching the 26-year-old, who registered 15 goal involvements in 2025-26 after leaving Sunderland’s academy pathway and senior set-up.
