Sunderland ‘to sign’ Toulouse left back Dayann Methalie if fee agreed | OneFootball

RMC reports that Sunderland are in advanced talks with Toulouse for 20-year-old left back Dayann Methalie, with an agreement in place with the player and a package in the region of £25 million under discussion. If the clubs can settle on a fee, he will sign a five-year deal.

The attacking full back has frequently operated as a wing back since his Toulouse debut. He enjoyed a breakout campaign in Ligue 1 last season, featuring regularly and attracting interest from several clubs.

Strengthening the left side of defence has been a key focus for Sunderland this window after Dennis Cirkin left as a free agent earlier in the summer.

Arthur Masuaku is also widely expected to move on, with interest from Turkish club Konyaspor. That would leave Régis Le Bris with Reinildo as his only recognised left back, and the 32-year-old is now in the second and final year of his deal.

It has been a quiet window on Wearside, with senior figures stressing quality over quantity. After the 4-2 defeat to Liverpool in Nashville at the weekend, Le Bris said additions are being worked on behind the scenes and that it is important to operate under the radar.
