Sunderland’s impressive Premier League push has been built on a settled core under Regis Le Bris. According to Sunderland Echo, this is the strongest Sunderland XI of the season when picked by minutes played.

The Black Cats have recorded notable wins over Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brentford, and completed a league double against rivals Newcastle United. There have also been hard-earned draws with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Based on minutes played, the XI reads: goalkeeper Robin Roefs 2,520 minutes. The defence is Nordi Mukiele 2,165 minutes, Omar Alderete 2,356 minutes, Dan Ballard 2,008 minutes and Trai Hume 2,585 minutes, the midfield is Granit Xhaka 2,273 minutes, Noah Sadiki 2,297 minutes and Habib Diarra 1,103 minutes, and the front line is Enzo Le Fee 2,306 minutes, Brian Brobbey 1,370 minutes and Chemsdine Talbi 1,330 minutes.

After Sunday’s derby win over Newcastle, Le Bris said he felt reaching the 40 points target so early was probably unexpected, though injuries and fatigue are an issue. He emphasised identity, togetherness and refusing excuses, believing tough spells can strengthen the squad’s pillars and lead to better days when the group is fresher, recalling last season’s play-offs when they dug in and seized their moment.

An intriguing run-in follows the international break. Sunderland hope to close a three-point gap to the top seven and continue a push for only a second European campaign in the club’s history. Several players are expected to return for next month’s home game with Tottenham, leaving Le Bris with selection calls against visitors firmly fighting relegation.
