New projections have Sunderland finishing 12th on 51.15 points after Brian Brobbey’s late winner sealed a dramatic Tyne-Wear derby triumph at St James Park.

According to Sunderland Echo, Opta’s model has Arsenal on 84.77 points to finish top, Manchester City second, Newcastle 10th and Fulham 11th, with Sunderland next.

Regis Le Bris’ side fell behind inside the opening 10 minutes when Anthony Gordon punished a Luke O'Nien header to put the Magpies ahead.

Chemsdine Talbi levelled from close range just before the hour, then Sunderland pushed on. In the final minute, Brobbey beat Aaron Ramsdale at the second attempt to complete the league double and stretch their unbeaten run in league derby fixtures to an 11th game.

The weekend’s results left the Black Cats 11th in the Premier League, three points off the European places heading into the final international break.

Le Bris said it was a big achievement to win two derbies in the same year, noting Newcastle’s intensity and the impact of the crowd. He felt the side reset at half-time and showed their quality after the break, adding the win means a lot to the team, staff and fans. He also pointed out Newcastle’s high level, having played in the Champions League last week, and said Sunderland want to keep improving.
