Sunderland’s return to the Premier League has produced a string of standout displays, and early form had them discussed as surprise European contenders, although a recent dip has cooled those hopes.
According to Sunderland Echo, WhoScored’s highest-rated Sunderland players in the Premier League this season, with at least 500 minutes, form a best XI led by captain Granit Xhaka, whose experience and steel in midfield have stood out. Wayne Rooney has even called him among the signings of the season.
Nordi Mukiele has been immense at full-back on the right, charging up and down and offering a threat with long throw-ins. Dan Ballard’s relentlessness showed when he blasted in the opener against Arsenal.
Omar Alderete has been among the most consistent performers and has contributed to a solid defensive record. Trai Hume has impressed at full-back and never shirks a challenge.
Goalkeeper Robin Roefs has excelled, producing big saves and showing composure with the ball at his feet. Reinildo Mandava has contributed to the team’s promising league position and is secure in possession.
In midfield, Enzo Le Fee has carried his Championship class into the top flight, delivering seven combined goals and assists. Noah Sadiki has broken up play tirelessly and added energy alongside Xhaka.
Bertrand Traore makes the XI despite fewer minutes than others. Up front, Brian Brobbey has five goals and one assist from 18 league games, many of them off the bench.
