Who does Opta think is heading to the Championship and League Two at the end of the current campaign?

The League One table appears to be taking shape after weeks and weeks of many clubs battling and being close to a top six spot.

Promotion to the Championship meant a heck of a lot to clubs in the third tier thanks to the revenue rises that come with it, and many clubs realistically still have a shot of being in that top six come May.

But how does Opta’s famous supercomputer see the League One table finishing up in a few months time? Let’s take a look to see where your club is being tipped to finish.

24 ? ? Port Vale - 42 pts

Darren Moore may have guided Port Vale to promotion from League Two last season, but he was only afforded half a season more as the clubs head coach.

Despite being on a five-and-a-half year contract in Staffordshire, Moore’s time at Vale Park came to an end just before 2025 ended, and ex-Northampton Town boss Jon Brady was installed as his successor.

Brady added five new faces to his squad, including the eye-catching addition of former Premier League striker Andre Gray, but seven players also left, including first-team regulars Devante Cole and Ronan Curtis, who joined League One rivals Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

Vale are being tipped to struggle though for the rest of the season, with Opta tipping them to finish rock bottom.

Not only is the club Jon Brady currently managing predicted to head back to League Two, but his most recent side - Northampton - are also heading back to the fourth tier.

This is the Cobblers' third season in League One, having finished 14th and 19th in the previous two years, but Kevin Nolan's outfit are struggling for wins.

Experienced centre-back Elliott Moore has been added, with Nottingham Forest helping out Nolan with two young loanees in Kyle McAdam and Ben Hammond, but a lack of a regular goalscorer means that Town are predicted to drop back into England's fourth tier.

It's been somewhat of an up and down season for Burton Albion - perhaps the smallest club by size in the third tier of England, yet they have been punching above their weight for a number of years now, with this being their eighth year at the level since they dropped out of the Championship.

Could it be their last though before heading down to League Two? Opta certainly think so - Gary Bowyer has done a sterling job on limited resources, with Jake Beesley and Charlie Webster starring up-front and in the engine room, but they've hit a bit of a road block now in terms of wins.

The Brewers dipped into non-league for two attackers in the January window, with Kain Adom and Millar Matthews-Lewis joining, whilst the experience of Wrexham midfielder Andy Cannon on loan will be useful, but they are now being tipped for the drop alongside Staffordshire counterparts Port Vale.

The final relegation spot, as per Opta, will be heading to Rotherham, who last plied their trade in League Two back in 2013.

More recently known for bouncing between the Championship and the third tier, the Millers have struggled under Matt Hamshaw's management, but the January transfer window saw a lot of youth injected into their struggling squad.

Leeds United starlet Harry Gray has had a good start to life at the New York Stadium, whilst Lino Sousa, Gabriele Biancheri, Brandon Cover and Emmanuel Adegboyega are all 22 or under, so whilst we will have to see how Hamshaw's new-look younger unit plays out on the pitch, Opta are yet to be convinced that it will keep them in the division.

Surviving by the skin of their teeth a point ahead of Rotherham are Leyton Orient, who last May were contesting the League One play-off final with Charlton Athletic.

Richie Wellens' men were unlucky losers on that day, and whilst they may have a prolific marksman at the top end of the pitch in Dom Ballard this season, that doesn't always translate into wins.

Wellens has found that out first-hand, and in January, he's looked to arrest Orient's poor form with no fewer than nine new additions - most notably the experienced Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann. That splurge by the London outfit may just be enough to keep them in the division.

19 ? ? Blackpool - 54 pts

Ian Evatt probably had hoped to have a more instant impact when he returned to Blackpool to take their manager's job, but he's finding recent weeks a struggle - much like previous boss Steve Bruce did.

Evatt has added six new faces to his ranks at Bloomfield Road in the transfer window, although his raid of former club Bolton for Joel Randall on loan has already gotten off to a bad start, having suffered a hamstring injury just a few minutes into his debut.

The mid to lower reaches of the table are still close in League One, but the Seasiders are someone Opta are tipping to just survive, despite some really experienced players for the level.

Doncaster Rovers have finally started to show some form recently after a torrid season, and it's perhaps coincided with a refresh of the squad from Grant McCann.

Seven new players arrived for Donny in the mid-season window, including the manager's son (Bayley McCann) from Barnsley, albeit not for the immediate first-team, and performances have picked up.

Aided by prolific midfielder Owen Bailey, who is having a standout season, Rovers are now being tipped to stay safe of relegation, albeit not by much in terms of points.

17 ? ? WIgan Athletic - 55 pts

The future of Wigan manager Ryan Lowe and sporting director Gregor Rioch was hotly debated during January and also coming out of the window, with some of the fanbase calling for change at the Brick Community Stadium.

The summer investment into players like Dara Costelloe and Christian Saydee hasn't really worked for the Latics, and the only permanent signing in January they made to try and turn their fortunes around was veteran defender Jack Hunt.

Lowe utilised the loan market for three new signings, including Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor, but do Wigan have enough to see out the season and survive? They may have to rely on their star goalkeeper Sam Tickle, and the emerging talent that is Harrison Bettoni in attack to bring them points.

AFC Wimbledon's first year back in League One was looking incredibly bright under Johnnie Jackson after a couple of months of the season, but they went through a real rut afterwards, which they've still not fully recovered from.

Opta though believe they will be absolutely fine and survive by a few places in the table.

The loan additions of Layton Stewart and Zack Nelson could be particularly exciting for the rest of the season, and the creativity of Marcus Browne in the final third could be pivotal to survival.

Plymouth Argyle looked in massive danger earlier on in the season, with genuine fears creeping in around early December of a double relegation from the Championship to League Two in consecutive seasons.

Tom Cleverley has somewhat allayed those concerns for now, with the Pilgrims in much better form in recent times, with many plaudits going to one of the division's top marksmen in Lorent Tolaj.

With a focus on adding experience in the transfer market, with Herbie Kane, Wes Harding and Ronan Curtis all arriving at Home Park during the winter window, Cleverley will hope he has enough nous to be comfortable in League One - Opta believes he has it.
