SWPL: Katie Lockwood departs Glasgow City for WSL 2 club

Glasgow City have announced that midfielder Katie Lockwood has departed the club to join Women’s Super League 2 side Charlton Athletic.

After gaining her trade playing college football in the States, Lockwood joined City last summer from fellow Scottish side Hearts. The midfielders has since gone on to make 51 appearances for the club.

During her time with Glasgow, the 27-year-old scored 12 goals, including a brace in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Motherwell.

The experienced midfielder helped the club to a top two finish last season. She also guided them to European football for the current campaign. On the European stage, she featured six times across the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the Europa Cup.

This wealth of experience will prove vital to Charlton who currently sit top of the WSL 2 table, five points clear of Birmingham. With one eye on promotion, the Addicks will hope Lockwood can guide the club to the top flight.

Lockwood could be set to make her debut as Charlton host Swindon Town from The Valley next Sunday in the FA Cup.
