Liverpool came away from the San Siro with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League, thanks to a late penalty from Dominik Szoboszlai.

The build-up to the game was overshadowed by Mohamed Salah’s absence, following his public fallout with manager Arne Slot.

With the Egyptian star left out, Dominik Szoboszlai stepped up in the 88th minute after Alessandro Bastoni was judged to have tugged Florian Wirtz’s shirt inside the box following a lengthy VAR check. His low, powerful penalty beat Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, giving Liverpool a vital three points.

It was a tight encounter, with chances at a premium. Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate had a first-half header ruled out for handball after another VAR review, and Alisson kept the Reds in the game with a solid save before the break.
