Borussia Dortmund and Julian Brandt have been in discussions over a potential contract extension for some time, but no agreement has been reached yet.
According to Bild, the balance of power in the negotiations now appears to have shifted.
Initially, Brandt was hoping to convince Dortmund to extend his contract beyond 2026, even if it meant accepting a salary decrease.
However, after a strong first half of the season, the 29-year-old midfielder has put himself in a position to set conditions for the club, which is now more open than ever to a contract extension.
Bild reports that Brandt wants clarity non his long-term role in the team as well as the club’s broader squad planning.
While he is open to staying at Dortmund, Brandt is in no rush and is consciously taking his time to make a decision.
An offer has reportedly already been presented to him, but it comes with a lower salary than he currently earns. Whether he will accept it or return with higher demands remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are understood to be monitoring the 29-year-old attacking midfielder's situation.
