Tension between Arbeloa and Spanish core at Real Madrid including club captain – report | OneFootball

Even though there were signs of promise in the early weeks, it is starting to become clear that all is not well in the Real Madrid locker room between the players and manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

Promoted from Castilla to replace Xabi Alonso in January, the former defender has struggled to produce the desired results and seems to be bound for the exit doors at the end of the season.

Tension in the locker room

In his short time as the first-team manager Arbeloa has seemingly forged a strong bond with Vinicius Jr. – contrary to the situation with his predecessor Xabi Alonso.

However, according to The Athletic, there is tension building in the locker room between Arbeloa and the Spanish core of the squad.

A group of players in the roster feel that they have not been given fair opportunities by the manager leading to a sense of disconnect in the dressing room for some time now.

The report states that there was even a moment of tension between Arbeloa and club captain Dani Carvajal last week after the former’s comments in the media about the right-back’s lack of minutes.

On top of that, Dani Ceballos has also understood to have had a falling out with Arbeloa after a run-in during training last week. He was not called up to the game against Real Betis on Friday and is unlikely to play again this season.

Going a little further behind, Raul Asencio, too, allegedly had a confrontation with the manager regarding his place in the team after he played through injuries when other defenders were unavailable.

With Real Madrid’s season set to end without a trophy, Arbeloa will very much likely move on at the end of the season.
