Terrão youngsters shine as Corinthians cruise past Capivariano

On the night of Thursday (5th), Corinthians hosted Capivariano at 8:30 PM (Brasília time) at the Neo Química Arena for the sixth round of the first phase of the 2026 Paulista Championship and won 3-0, with goals from Dieguinho, Gui Negão, and Kayke. The result moved the Alvinegro Paulista to fourth place in the State Championship, with 11 points.

In the first half, Corinthians started better and threatened Capivariano with a shot from Matheus Pereira. However, the team's offensive production decreased after Kaio César left the field at just 15 minutes due to thigh pain. Timão created few opportunities for the rest of the first half and even had a scare with an opponent's goal, which was annulled for offside.

In the second half, Corinthians saw its offensive sector's performance greatly improve, especially with the brilliance of the Filhos do Terrão. Dieguinho, Gui Negão, and Kayke shone to open a wide score for Timão. Dorival Júnior's team created several other chances and could have left the field with a big win, but settled for the 3-0 score.

Next match

After facing Capivariano in Itaquera, Corinthians remains focused on the Paulista Championship. Next Sunday (8th), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will face Palmeiras at the Neo Química Arena for the seventh round of the state championship's first phase.

Corinthians Lineup

The Corinthians technical staff had only the midfielder José Martínez as an absentee, who is still waiting for his passport reissue in Venezuela to return to Brazil. Goalkeeper Hugo Souza was left out of the squad to be preserved for the classic against Palmeiras.

Thus, Corinthians started the match with: Felipe Longo; Pedro Milans, João Pedro Tchoca, André Ramalho, and Hugo Farias; Charles, Matheus Pereira, and Rodrigo Garro; Vitinho, Kaio César, and Gui Negão.

The bench options were: Kauê Camargo, Matheuzinho, Gustavo Henrique, Matheus Bidu, Raniele, André, Dieguinho, Breno Bidon, Kayke, Pedro Raul, Yuri Alberto, and Memphis Depay.

On the bench were: Matheus Teixeira, Ricardo Cerqueira, Tarcísio, Vinícius Guedes, João Balão, Thiaguinho, Ravanell, Vinícius Popó, Cassinho, Matheus Guilherme, Marcos Moser, and João Victor.

Refereeing

The referee was Daiane Muniz (SP), assisted by Alex Ang Ribeiro (SP) and Raphael de Albuquerque Lima (SP). The fourth referee and VAR were, respectively, Guilherme Francisco Maciel da Silva E Rosário (SP) and Douglas Marques das Flores (SP).

First half

The first dangerous move was from Corinthians. At six minutes, Matheus Pereira received from Pedro Milans in the midfield, cleared the marking, and tried a long shot, forcing the opposing goalkeeper to make a good save to prevent the goal.

At seven, Kaio César made a beautiful play and set up Gui Negão inside the area. The youngster shot but sent it wide. At nine minutes, the forward received again in the area, with no angle, but the goalkeeper made the save.

At 13 minutes, Vitinho made a good play, entered the area, and shot across, but no one from Corinthians was there to finish. The next minute, Kaio César, who was playing well, felt thigh pain and had to leave the field for Dieguinho to come on.

At 16, Leonan advanced on the left and shot from outside the area, forcing goalkeeper Felipe Longo to palm it away, but luckily no one from Capivariano was there for the rebound. At 21 minutes, Vitinho recovered the ball in midfield, launched a counterattack, and set up Dieguinho on the right, who cut inside and shot wide.

At 23, from a corner, Rodolfo rose higher than the Corinthians defense and headed dangerously but wide. At 41, Matheus Bidu received the ball in the middle, pulled it to his right foot, and shot with power. The shot was strong but off-target.

At 42 minutes, after a curved free-kick by Carlos Eduardo, the ball bounced inside the area and passed by goalkeeper Felipe Longo without touching anyone. However, the play was annulled due to an offside Capivariano player.

There were no more dangerous plays, and the teams went to halftime with a 0-0 draw.

Second half

The first offensive move of the second half was from Capivariano. At five minutes, Carlos Eduardo burst through the middle, passed Matheus Pereira, and tried a long shot. The ball went over, far from the goal defended by Felipe Longo.

The first goal for Corinthians: at eight minutes, Garro exchanged passes with Matheus Bidu, the left-back entered the area, passed to Gui Negão, who battled with two Capivariano defenders. The ball fell again to number 21, who delivered it to Dieguinho's feet. Alone, the Timão youngster hit the top corner to open the scoring.

At 15 minutes, Vitinho passed two players, entered the area, and crossed back. The ball arrived too strong for Dieguinho, who couldn't control it. At 16, Garro passed to Dieguinho inside the area. The youngster controlled it, shot with his left foot, the ball deflected off Wendel Lomar, and narrowly missed entering.

At 18 minutes, from a distance, Garro shot with placement, and goalkeeper Guilherme Nogueira stretched fully to prevent the goal.

The second goal for Corinthians: at 19 minutes, Corinthians exchanged passes on the right, Dieguinho found space and crossed into the area. Gui Negão attacked the ball, imposing himself physically, and headed strongly to score Timão's second.

At 29 minutes, Matheus Guilherme made a good play, passed two markers, and decided to shoot from the edge of the area. However, the forward mishit the ball, sending it far from the goal defended by Felipe Longo.

The third goal for Corinthians: at 33, Kayke received the ball on the left after a pass from Pedro Raul, exchanged passes with Memphis Depay, and with his right foot curled it beautifully, leaving no chance for Guilherme Nogueira, scoring a stunning goal.

At 40 minutes, Kayke received inside the area after another play with Memphis, shot off-balance, and narrowly missed scoring another. In the next play, after a corner, Pedro Raul rose completely alone and headed wide, close to the post.

At 42, Kayke entered the area alone, left two defenders on the ground with a single dribble, and shot blocked in the sequence. At 43 minutes, Matheus Bidu shot powerfully from outside the area, and goalkeeper Guilherme Nogueira palmed it away. Memphis believed in the play, picked up the rebound, and crossed back. Alone, with the goalkeeper on the ground, midfielder Charles passed it back and failed to score.

At 45, in a Corinthians counterattack led by Dieguinho, the youngster passed to Pedro Raul at the edge of the area. The striker pulled it to his right foot and curled it, but sent it over. There was no time for anything else, and Timão won 3-0.
