Corinthians have suffered a late blow for the Copa das Campeãs da Fifa, the first women’s club World Cup, with defender Thaís Regina ruled out through injury.

The club said in a statement that she sustained a left ankle fibula fracture during Thursday’s session at the training centre, underwent imaging and has already begun treatment. Surgery is planned for next week, when the squad travel to London.

No official return date was provided, although this type of recovery typically takes three to four months.

She will not be in the travelling party on Tuesday as the Brabas complete their preparation in London. Five centre-backs are available for the tournament, Erika, Thaís Ferreira, Leticia Teles, Duda Mineira and recent signing Agustina.

In 2025, her first year at Corinthians, Thaís played 30 matches, starting 26, scoring four goals and adding two assists. She helped secure the Brasileiro and Libertadores titles.

Corinthians open their campaign on 28 against Gotham FC of the United States in the semi-final at the GTech Community Stadium in London. Kick-off is 9.30, Brasília time. The other semi-final pits Arsenal against ASFAR of Morocco.
