“That’s Celtic. There are always big games and games you need to win,” KT

Kieran Tierney hopes Celtic will ‘get it right’ in a title race with Hearts after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Derek McInnes’ side on Sunday afternoon…

Tierney looked exasperated as he reflected on the bruising defeat to the Jambos, a result that has handed new manager Wilfred Nancy a pile of problems rather than solutions.

McInnes’ men as expected were well-organised and punished Celtic at crucial times in the game. Claudio Braga and Oisin McEntee put the visitors two goals ahead before Tierney smashed in a late stoppage-time consolation.

Despite having a game in hand, the Scottish champions now trail Hearts by three points and are six goals worse off than their weekend’s opponents.

However, Tierney insists that with everything to play for, this Celtic team are ready to compete on all fronts. “We need to get it right,” the Celtic and Scotland left-back said via Daily Record.

“We are in a title race, we have a cup final, and we’ve got the Europa League; we want to qualify. So there’s no option. We need to get it right, and we’ll be doing everything possible to achieve that.

“We respect every opponent, and Hearts are up there because they deserve to be up there. We have work to do, and we need to do it quickly.”

Tierney added: “It’s a massive week for a new manager to come in, but that’s Celtic. If he had come in the week before, it would still be another enormous week.

“That’s Celtic. There are always big games and games you need to win, and that comes with a lot of pressure. That’s what we, as players, want and thrive off: playing big games. I’m sure he’s the same, and we’ll look forward to this week.”

Wilfred Nancy’s introduction to life as Celtic manager could hardly have been more demanding, and the challenges are only continuing to mount.

Serie A giants Roma visit Celtic Park in the Europa League on Thursday and that is quickly followed by a journey to Hampden Park to face St Mirren in the Premier Sports League Cup final on Sunday.
