FLW has looked at the players set to be unavailable for this crucial Championship fixture

With the Championship promotion race hotting up after a big weekend of results, Ipswich Town and Hull City prepare to lock horns for what could be a season-defining encounter at Portman Road on Tuesday night.

After this particular Championship encounter was rescheduled due to the Tractor Boys' and Tigers' progression in the FA Cup last month, three points for either side could help realise their dreams of a return to the Premier League.

Kieran McKenna's side made it back-to-back wins with a convincing 3-0 success over Swansea City at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon, hours after Sergej Jakirovic's men had leapfrogged themselves and Millwall into third for a brief moment after their second win on the spin, albeit a 1-0 success against Portsmouth at Fratton Park wasn't without a largely below-par performance.

However, both sides enter this encounter on 60 points, whilst Ipswich will have a game in hand to spare over the East Yorkshire team, after their own trip to the South Coast was postponed for a second time on February 3rd.

With that being said, whilst there are plenty of players capable of making a difference when it comes to the end result, Football League World have looked at the 10 players from both sides who are set to miss this midweek clash.

Ipswich Town

Ashley Young

The first of three expected absentees for Ipswich is veteran full-back, Ashley Young, who has been out of action since a six-minute cameo against Bristol City in January.

After making his first 15 appearances for the club in all competitions, the 40-year-old was reported to have suffered a serious hip injury.

As such, the former England international has missed the past eight matches in all competitions as he recovers from the aforementioned issue.

Conor Townsend

The first of two ex-Hull players set to be missing for Town is experienced left-back, Conor Townsend.

Townsend has been unavailable to McKenna for the entire season thus far after suffering a major ACL injury in Town's final pre-season outing against AJ Auxerre on August 2nd.

He has since been in recovery after it was reported that he would miss the majority of the season, of which there are now 13 games remaining for the Blues.

Jaden Philogene

The Tigers will also not have to worry about Jaden Philogene's goal threat, after Town's £20m signing came back to haunt his former club with the opening goal in the 2-0 win for Ipswich in the reverse fixture on November 25th.

Philogene has scored 10 goals in all competitions so far this term, but suffered a knee injury against Blackburn Rovers on January 17th, before hitting a roadblock in his recovery last month.

Issuing an update on the winger's progress ahead of the Tractor Boys' weekend success against Swansea, McKenna said: "We're trying to rebuild him up now after the setback that he had, but he's not back with the group yet.

Hull City

Matty Jacob

The first of six absentees for the visitors is left-back, Matty Jacob.

After making six appearances for City after his loan stint with Reading was cut short, it was revealed last month that the academy graduate had suffered an MCL issue that would keep him sidelined until the season's final weeks.

Ryan Giles

However, he isn't the only injury-hit left-back on Jakirovic's books, as the Bosnian is also without the services of Ryan Giles for the majority of what is left in the regular campaign.

After recently returning from an injury layoff, the 26-year-old pulled up with a hamstring issue early in the second period of last Tuesday's 4-2 victory over Derby County at the MKM Stadium, with Akin Famewo taking up his place in the lineup on Saturday as a result.

Eliot Matazo

Eliot Matazo has been sidelined for over 12 months now after suffering an ACL injury just weeks after he was signed from AS Monaco under Ruben Selles.

The Belgian is nearing a return sooner rather than later, and it is expected that he will take up one of the currently two vacant spots left in City's 25-man squad.

After a recent return to training, it has been confirmed by assistant, Dean Holden, that the 24-year-old will feature for City's Under-21s against Peterborough United on Tuesday afternoon.

Darko Gyabi

Darko Gyabi is another midfield absentee for Jakirovic, after it was revealed that he would be sidelined for up to three months after sustaining a groin issue in the opening minutes of City's FA Cup tie against Blackburn on January 11th.

Prior to the blow, the ex-Leeds United man had made 20 league appearances for his new employers, scoring in away wins over Norwich City and Middlesbrough.

Toby Collyer

It has also been confirmed that Manchester United loanee, Toby Collyer, will not recover from his hamstring layoff in time for Tuesday's clash.

The 22-year-old sustained said issue after his debut against Bristol City last month, and there was a previous hint that he could, at least, make the matchday squad at Portman Road.

Mohamed Belloumi

Mohamed Belloumi's spell at the MKM Stadium since joining from Farense has been particularly luckless, although there is hope that the Algerian winger will be back fit for the season's final games.

After spending almost one year sidelined with an ACL issue, the 23-year-old has since suffered two blows to the hamstring, with the latter of those being sustained in the 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day.

The winger has favoured rehabilitation over surgery on the issue, and could return to action in April.

Yu Hirakawa

In what was a largely frustrating February for the Tigers, they also saw Bristol City loanee, Yu Hirakawa, ruled out for the season after sustaining an ankle injury in a challenge with Japanese compatriot, Koki Saito, in the 3-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

It is expected that the winger will return to Ashton Gate to receive treatment after just six outings for Hull, which could see him de-registered in place of Nigerian winger, David Akintola.
