There is a lengthy list of absentees for the Championship clash, with a host of players out through injury.
Sunderland take on West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night in what promises to be a closely fought encounter.
Both sides are going strong in the Championship, with the Black Cats topping the table on goal difference, while the Baggies occupy sixth position.
The Championship duo are both on extended unbeaten runs. The Wearsiders are unbeaten in their last nine league games, while West Brom are unbeaten in their last eight.
The Black Cats will be boosted by the returns of Jobe Bellingham, Patrick Roberts and Trai Hume following their suspensions.
No fewer than 11 players are set to miss the encounter as Football League World assesses the absentees for Tuesday's clash.
Sunderland will be without one of their main attacking threats in Romaine Mundle for their match with West Brom.
Regis Le Bris confirmed that the winger will be out for six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury.
Similarly to Mundle, Le Bris also confirmed that Alan Browne is also expected to be out injured for six to eight weeks.
The central midfielder has suffered a fracture to one of the bones in his leg.
Jenson Steelt is yet to feature under Le Bris having suffered a major knee injury in March.
The centre-back has resumed individual training and will not return until 2025.
Another long-term absentee is Niall Huggins, who has been unavailable since suffering a serious knee injury last December.
The left-back recently signed a contract extension at the Stadium of Light, but Le Bris revealed he might not play a part this season.
Salis Abdul Samed has not featured since his season-long loan move from RC Lens during the summer.
The midfielder has been out with an injury sustained at Lens and Le Bris confirmed he will not be available to train until mid-December.
Like Samed, Ahmed Abdullahi has not featured since his summer move from KAA Gent.
Le Bris confirmed that he will not train until mid-December at the earliest, meaning he is unlikely to feature until next year.
Ian Poveda will also not be available to train until mid-December, having suffered a muscular injury at the start of October.
The Colombian only managed three substitute appearances before sustaining the injury.
West Brom will be without Darnell Furlong for their trip to the Stadium of Light.
The defender will be suspended having picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign.
Semi Ajayi is not expected to feature for the Baggies until next year after suffering a hamstring injury against Cardiff City earlier in the season.
Carlos Corberán confirmed Ajayi would require surgery on the injury.
Paddy McNair also picked up a hamstring injury in the clash with Cardiff and is expected to be out until late December at the minimum.
He would have relished the opportunity of playing against his former side.
Daryl Dike is yet to feature this season, having suffered a setback to his achilles tendon injury.
Corberán confirmed the striker would not be available until after the Christmas period.
As the fixtures pile up, so do the absentees for either side as they embark on a hectic festive period of fixtures.
Although both sides are on extended unbeaten runs, both sides have been struggling for victories. Sunderland have won one of their last five, while West Brom have only managed one win in their last 10.
The Black Cats are unbeaten at home this season and will be aiming for their fourth successive win over the Baggies.
