Barcelona’s pre-season could become a major opportunity for La Masia, with Hansi Flick preparing to work with a long list of academy talents during the summer.

With several first-team players involved at the World Cup, Flick will not have his full senior squad available from day one.

That opens the door for young players to train under him and even get a chance to take part in some friendlies during pre-season.

According to SPORT, 12 youngsters are expected to work with Flick during the preparatory period.

This includes the likes of Hamza Abdelkarim, Orian Goren, Toni Fernandez, Guille Fernandez, Jofre Torrents, Tommy Marques, Shane Kluivert, Oscar Gistau, Ebrima Tunkara, Ibrahim Diarra, Xavi Espart and Alvaro Cortes.

Flick has always placed considerable trust in La Masia prospects as a manager, and this allows him to look at some of these talents at close quarters.

La Masia gets another platform

Hamza is one of the most exciting names after arriving from Egypt, and he will join pre-season after being away on World Cup duty with his nation.

Jofre Torrents, Toni Fernandez and Guille Fernandez are already well known inside the club. Tommy Marques is also highly rated and has been in the first-team scheme of things for some time now.

There will also be attention on Shane Kluivert, who is the son of the legendary Patrick Kluivert. Then, there is Xavi Espart, who has already shown enough versatility and maturity under Flick.

Alvaro Cortes, meanwhile, gives the coach another defensive profile to assess after already making his first-team debut.

The most exciting name on the list, without a doubt, is Ebrima Tunkara, who was one of the standout performers at the recent U17 European Championship.

Flick can shape futures quickly

Pre-season can change everything at Barcelona.

Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Gavi, Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal are recent reminders that a young player only needs the right moment, the right mentality and the right coach to progress through the ranks quickly.

Not everyone on this list will make the first team. That is normal. Some may go on loan, some may stay with Barca Atletic or Juvenil A, and some will need more time.

For these 12 youngsters, this summer is an audition. For Barcelona, it is another chance to discover who might be ready sooner than expected.
