The 3 Burnley FC players we can see leaving Turf Moor in January

The Clarets will have room to offload some players come the winter window.

Even with a major fire sale at the end of the last transfer window, there's plenty of room for Burnley to move on some of their currently unwanted talent.

Eight members of the Clarets were either loaned or sold in the final week of the summer window. Despite that, they still have 32 players in their squad. That is in part to do with some of the late additions they made to Scott Parker's team, but that doesn't take away from the huge squad size they had then and have now.

Now, in fairness to Burnley, they do have a lot of fitness issues, especially in defence and midfield. These are the areas of their squad that have the most major, long-term injuries.

Hjalmar Ekdal, Jordan Beyer, Nathan Redmond, Aaron Ramsey; these are all players that are yet to return from problems they picked up last season.

So there is justification for Burnley having such a big squad, but there's going to come a point when these players return, and when they do, some clearing out will have to happen. These three Clarets are prime candidates to be moved on at the next available opportunity: January.

Etienne Green

Burnley signed two goalkeepers this summer, a year after spending £16 million on James Trafford. The ex-Manchester City goalkeeper was being linked with a move away from Turf Moor, but now those rumours have settled down, leaving current third choice shot-stopper Etienne Green in an awkward position.

Green, 24, joined the club from French side Saint-Étienne for an undisclosed fee. He was their backup option but has been demoted down the relative pecking order.

He is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Clarets due to promotion-winning goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky being ahead of him, and, as long as Trafford and Hladky are around, he's going to struggle to get game time.

For his sake, at least a loan move somewhere else would be beneficial.

Owen Dodgson

Owen Dogson featured on the Burnley bench in two successive games, when they played against Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle, for the first time in a long time.

The 21-year-old left-back/midfielder has spent a lot of time out on loan in recent seasons. He played for both Barnsley and Dundee FC in the 2023/24 campaign, which came in the campaign after he had a short-term spell with Rochdale.

The number of injuries that the Clarets are currently dealing with is giving him an opportunity to be around the first-team, but he's not going to get any decent minutes unless things really hit the fan. Another loan move in January could be on the cards.

Enock Agyei

It's a similar story for Enock Agyei as it is for Dodgson. The Belgian forward who was signed by Vincent Kompany in January 2023 from his old side, Anderlecht, has slightly less loan experience than his English teammate, but he was immediately sent out to KV Mechelen after signing with Burnley.

Where Agyei and Dodgson really have parallels is their chances of getting first-team minutes. The 19-year-old has been on the bench once more than Dogson this season, but the depth at the top of the team after the additions of Andreas Hountondji, Jeremy Sarmiento and Zian Flemming this summer make his chances of appearing in games for Scott Parker very slim.

Therefore, why not get him back playing regularly and see whether he can develop into the player that Kompany thought he could be when they signed him.
