‘The best season of my life’ – Chelsea’s Andrey Santos reflects on Strasbourg loan | OneFootball

Now back at parent club Chelsea, Andrey Santos (21) has reflected on his time on loan at RC Strasbourg Alsace in an interview with Globo.

Santos initially joined Strasbourg on loan during the 2023/24 season. He joined from Chelsea, following the early termination of what was a very unfruitful spell at Nottingham Forest. That move came in January, but the midfielder was absent upon the completion of the move as he was on international duty with Brazil’s youth set-up.

It was not until mid-February that he could make his mark, but he made a strong impression in a short time. The Brazilian then rejoined Strasbourg from Chelsea the following summer, with the ownership link between the two clubs exploited to give him further game time.

He excelled in his second season, even wearing the captain’s armband on occasions. He is now back at Chelsea and in the first-team set-up. He has now reflected on his time in Alsace. “It was the best season of my life,” he began.

Santos added, “I remember I was presented with options. I spoke with my wife and we decided to return to France because the first loan was short, with just 12 matches. I did very well there; I was welcomed by the staff, the squad, and the supporters. It was a brilliant season, the best of my life and my first full season in Europe. I scored goals, and I was happy, and I was called up to the national team.”
