A lot is being made about the fact Rangers’ unveil of Danny Rohl did not take place in the Blue Room. Danny Rohl suit appeared.
Traditionally this is where all Rangers manager unveils have materialised, and is a historic standard. Even Russell Martin was introduced here.
But not Rohl.
Meanwhile, the suit issue has surfaced again, with Rohl reportedly confirming he will always wear one in the dugout.
Now, what does all this mean?
We recall under Russell Martin that so many fans mocked his not wearing a suit as irrelevant, and quote:
‘I don’t care if he’s in a tutu ffs, as long as we win’.
In other words, fans so desperate for success, to win, that they were willing to bypass club standards and tradition. And yes, the tutu line was used A LOT.
We don’t know what the widespread reaction to Rohl being in a random media centre and not the Blue Room was, but we suspect it would be the same.
We’ve already seen fans again mocking the suit saying they don’t care as long as Rohl wins. And we suspect their comments about the Blue Room would be similar.
‘Ah don’t care if he wiz unveiled at Porkheed ffs, as long as we win’
In other words, fans so starved of success they almost do not care about things they really once did.
Now, this isn’t a sweeping generalisation, many many fans do still care about these things – Ibrox Noise will not paint all supporters the same.
But it is a bit sad that a club once proud of its traditions and its identity has been eroded so badly and fans are accepting it. ‘As long as we win’.
It’s not the same Rangers as it used to be, but at least Rohl will look the part for Danny Rohl suit.
