A host of areas throughout the United Kingdom have been targeted in a fresh crackdown of 'dodgy' Amazon Fire Stick devices
A recent report has outlined the areas targeted throughout the United Kingdom in an intensified effort to clamp down on the usage of 'dodgy' Amazon firesticks to illegally broadcast live sporting events, such as EFL fixtures in the 2025/26 campaign.
The authorities have adopted a hardened stance to combat the issue in recent times, while the market for Amazon firesticks chipped with software enabling customers to illegally access live sporting events at a fraction of the price for a yearly Sky Sports subscription, for example, continues to rise.
It is, however, a costly crime, which is claimed to be costing the country's economy some £7bn by a study from the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence. Police, government officials and television rights holders alike are all looking to reduce the number of illegal streaming through chipped firesticks, and it has been widely-reported that households found to be in possession of a jailbroken device could be punished with significant fines if caught.
There are a number of regions across the United Kingdom that have been targeted in a continued effort to clamp down on the ever-growing usage of jaibroken firesticks, which has been revealed in a fresh update.
A recent report published by the Daily Record has revealed a list of up to 17 areas throughout the United Kingdom that are being targeted in a fresh crackdown of illegal firesticks, with the authorities' efforts to restore law and order in how EFL supporters, and the public as a whole, access live streaming of football matches, alternative sporting events, films and more.
In the South of England, London, Kent and Sussex have all been targeted in the latest crackdown, whereas supporters of Cardiff City, Swansea City and Newport County may also be on red alert that South Wales is another area being looked at by the authorities.

Particular attention is being paid to the Midlands area, it would appear, with the East and West Midlands, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire all being targeted, while the same applies for Norfolk.
And moving up north, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Northumbria, North Yorkshire, and both North East and North West England have all been listed among the areas targeted in the latest crackdown.
Despite the threat of fines up to £50,000, individuals are continuing to both modify and sell devices and purchase them at a high rate, leaving the authorities to conduct a widespread raid across the nation.
The danger of receiving sanctions such as fines or even imprisonment amid an increased effort to raise awareness of the illegal matter of using a 'dodgy' firestick has not deterred too many customers or helped to change popular beliefs surrounding the subject, however, as the New Sport Industry Report 2026 found that 58% of fans and 66% of industry professionals say it is "socially acceptable" to engage in 'dodgy' streaming services.

This comes after alternative research showed no fewer than four million people across the UK used an illegal device to watch live sport alone in 2023, with supporters throughout the EFL sphere sure to be contributing towards that number.
However, as subscription and match ticketing prices continue to be the subject of backlash from supporters, many feel they have no other choice than to search for alternative - albeit illegal - ways to watch their team in action.
The EFL now has more coverage following the organisation's recent deal with Sky Sports, which will see more than 1,000 EFL-associated fixtures broadcasted mainstream or on Sky Sports+, yet the market for illegal firesticks remains strong.
You do wonder if reducing subscription and ticketing prices offers the best outcome to both reduce the output of illegal streaming devices and correct collective public attitudes pertaining to the matter, with the authorities' mission yet to make too much of a change.
