It has been a busy summer for the Foxes following their relegation from the Premier League, and three goalkeepers have moved on over the past few months.

Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward both departed the King Power Stadium after their contracts expired, whilst Mads Hermansen joined West Ham in a deal worth around £20m.

Whilst Asmir Begovic has been added to the squad as a backup option, it could be argued that Leicester still need another goalkeeper to challenge number one Jakub Stolarczyk.

And it appears they are ready to act on that, as German journalist Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that the Championship side have made an offer for Omlin.

He revealed that they have ‘submitted an official loan bid’, although there is still work to do before the move is complete.

Firstly, it’s stated that Mönchengladbach wants an option or an obligation as part of the initial agreement, and they will also need to bring in a replacement before they sign off on Omlin’s exit.

The 31-year-old is currently second-choice for the club, with the Switzerland international having been on the bench for their two competitive fixtures so far this season, which includes the 0-0 draw with Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Jonas Omlin would be a sensible transfer addition for Leicester City

Stolarczyk has had a mixed start to the Championship season, but he showed his quality in the win over Charlton on Saturday, so he is certainly capable of playing at this level.

But, you can understand why Cifuentes wants serious competition for the current number one, and Omlin would arrive with a good pedigree.

Even though he is currently back-up, he has made 39 appearances for Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga over the past three years, and prior to that he had impressed with Montpellier in Ligue 1, and he also has top-flight experience in his home country with Luzern and Basel.

To get a player like that on loan is a low-risk move from the Foxes, especially if they include an option to buy, which means there’s no serious financial outlay.

So, it could be a sensible addition to the squad if they can get it over the line, as Leicester prepare for a busy end to the window.
