The Los Angeles Galaxy just experienced their third win of the season. It also marks the first time since last year's playoff run that the defending MLS Cup champions have won back-to-back games.
The six-time MLS Cup winners have played better as of late. They have gone 3-2-1 in their past six matches.
On Wednesday, the LA Galaxy have a chance to make it three in a row when they host Austin FC on Wednesday night. Brandon Vázquez has been Austin's leading scorer as he has five goals on the season.
He had the lone score in the previous meeting between these two teams. The Galaxy lost 1-0 as Vázquez gave his team the win. This time, however, the Los Angeles Galaxy may need to cover this pair of stars on Austin FC when the rematch goes down.
While Brandon Vázquez has proven to be a thorn in the side of the Galaxy before, their opponent has a pair of players that have recorded four assists each. The dynamic duo of play makers have helped Austin FC to their seven wins this season.
Sure, the LA Galaxy has midfielder Marco Reus, the reigning Player of the Month for May & June. He will most likely be lined up against Owen Wolff. The 20-year-old has contributed to four scores for Austin FC.
Wolff recorded an assist in the 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls a month ago. He is fortunate to have a teammate that also has found success in a strong passing game.
Forward Osman Bukari had the other assist for Austin FC in the victory against the Red Bulls. Though he hasn't been a scoring threat most of this season, the Ghana native scored the game's only goal in the 1-0 season opener against Sporting Kansas City.
Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Galaxy have been on the historic wrong end of a 1-0 game against KC. If the 2024 MLS Cup champions want to win their fourth in a row at home and third consecutive game overall, former Austin FC and current midfielder may have to find the back of the net again.
His and Reus's goals gave the LA Galaxy the 2-1 victory last Saturday against D.C. United. The Galaxy can foil Austin FC's playoff push by giving them their ninth loss on the season.
Austin FC enters Wednesday night's game against the LA Galaxy as the ninth seed in the MLS Western Conference standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (PT) and 9:30 p.m. (CT) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
