Peter Smith’s piece for Sky Sports previewing Chelsea’s Sunday game against Man City points out that Liam Rosenior “will need to show he has the solutions,” after a bad run of results in the Premier League.

“Adding to the difficulty of the challenge is that Chelsea will be without Fernandez once again as he serves the second of his two-game ban imposed by Rosenior and the club after seemingly discussing a potential move to Real Madrid this summer,” the journalist continues.

“In a midfield battle which will be key, his absence will be felt. But Rosenior – yet to have a big statement win on Chelsea’s home patch – needs to find a way to a big result without him.

He certainly does. Whatever you think of the decision to suspend Enzo, there’s no going back on it now and Rosenior will have been spending this week working out how best to cope without his number 8.

Chelsea could tweak midfield shape to counter City

The good news is that there are options – Dario Essugo, Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos are all fit and all got minutes against Port Vale last week in preparation to potentially partner Moises Caicedo against City. We may even see two of them used alongside the Ecuador star in an attempt to really strengthen the middle of the pitch.

In other news…

Chelsea’s record losses are very worrying – but some people are trying to say it’s not as scary as it looks.

Maxi Araujo has been linked with Premier League teams, but we don’t think he will be coming to Chelsea soon.
