Manchester City head coach Andree Jeglertz says Canadian international Jade Rose will shine for his side in the years to come.

The 22-year-old defender got her first goal for the club in Wednesday’s 3-1 Subway Women’s League Cup win over Everton, starting off the scoring in the 21st minute, with Yui Hasegawa and Vivianne Miedema adding to the tally in the second half.

She said that it was “an incredible feeling” to open her account for the club in front of the home fans.

And Jeglertz said afterwards that he expects big things from Rose in the years to come.

“She’s a really great football player and she’s just going to grow over time,” he told City’s official website after the match of the player who signed for them in June following her college career at Harvard University.

“She’s new to the league, new in professional football, it takes some time, but she’s shown the last weeks what a great player, she will be great for City in coming years.”

Jeglertz: It’s crucial to have competition within the squad

Jeglertz made some tweaks to the starting line-up, including handing Eartha Cumings her debut in goal after signing from FC Rosengard in the summer.

And he said he was pleased that in the opening weeks of the season he had been able to give minutes to all of his available players.

“Our attacking play in many parts of the game is very good,” he said. “I also think especially in the first half our defending structure is good.

“I’m mostly pleased so many players got minutes, and the ones that got a chance to play showed they are ready to compete about the positioning.”

He added: “It’s a key thing for a team, a successful team, to have a squad with a big depth, that everybody feels they have a role and they are important for the group, and today they showed that a lot of players are really competing and battling about positions but also bringing things to the team, which is crucial.”

Manchester City’s upcoming fixture

Manchester City’s next game is in the Women’s Super League, when they host London City Lionesses on Sunday, 28th September.

Jocelyn Precheur’s side also got a League Cup win on Wednesday night, coming from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1.

It follows their first WSL win of the season last Friday, when they defeated Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park.
