Frank Lampard has done an extraordinary job since taking over as Coventry City manager.
Appointed on the 28th of November, the Chelsea legend arrived at the CBS Arena with an uphill task as the threat of relegation loomed with the Sky Blues sitting precariously in 17th place, two points above the drop-zone.
A season of mid-table mediocrity would likely have satisfied the club's supporters. Instead, Lampard set his sights higher, and after just over three months in charge, he has propelled them to fifth place, three points clear of seventh-place Bristol City.
This remarkable run currently sees them embroiled in a patch of form which has seen them win eight of their last nine, the only defeat coming against top-of-the-table, Leeds United.
The head coach has admitted that he "didn't envisage such a quick turnaround", but that reversal has happened and the Midlands outfit now must take advantage of the position they have got themselves into.
To get a Coventry City point of view on the future of Lampard at the CBS Arena, Football League World asked their resident Sky Blue, Chris Deez, whether their head coach is in for the long haul.
To this question, he replied: "I hope and pray that he is, especially after the amazing work he has done in such a short amount of time - taking us from a relegation battle, where we looked like one of the favourites for the drop, to suddenly being in the play-offs. It’s insane.
"The problem we have is that we are not one of the biggest teams, and we don’t have unlimited money to spend. I wouldn’t blame him if a bigger team came along in the Premier League, turned his head, and offered him a significant transfer budget.
"I don’t think he is in a position to go to a top-six team, but I know he has been linked with Rangers. I have no issue with Rangers, but is it really worth leaving a club that will consistently challenge for the play-offs - if we don’t get promoted - to go to a two-horse race in the Scottish Premiership?
"He is a big name, and he will attract interest from other clubs that can offer him more than we can. However, I’d like to think that our ongoing project is enough to keep him here.
"He would have full control over transfers and be given free rein to work with the team, implement his style, and make squad changes as he sees fit. He didn’t have much of that in the winter window, aside from signing Matt Grimes - which turned out to be a masterstroke.
"In a couple of seasons' time, if we’re still hovering around the play-offs but not quite making it, would he still be here? I really hope so, but I wouldn’t hold it against him if he moved on."
Even if Coventry fail to secure promotion this season, they remain in safe hands under Lampard’s guidance.
The head coach has likely learned from his experiences at Everton and Chelsea, and his connections within the game could prove invaluable in building a strong Championship side.
The Sky Blues should be aiming for at least a play-off spot next season if they are not in the Premier League, but if they get things right, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them challenging for promotion.
At the moment, Lampard's record looks fantastic, and he will be keen to build on this throughout the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
