The push is on by Manchester City to complete a key signing before the World Cup

As I wrote earlier this week, I believe that signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is a must for Manchester City this summer. With Bernardo Silva leaving City when his contract expires and the Premier League evolving into a league where winning duels in midfield is vital, Anderson is the ideal player to bolster Manchester City’s midfield. The England international is exceptional in the physical side of the game, and in possession, he is an elite player in his own right. It has now been reported that City have agreed to personal terms with Elliot Anderson. Also, another report indicates that City are pushing ahead with negotiations with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson. Manchester City are seemingly now pushing to secure a big signing as quickly as possible in what looms as an important summer for the club.

All signs point to City accelerating their move to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

First of all, Nicolò Schira has reported that Manchester City have agree in principle personal terms with Elliot Anderson. Furthermore, Schira reports that City are now in talks with Nottingham Forest to reach an agreement to sign the England international this summer.

Following on from Nicolò Schira’s report, Graeme Bailey has provided a further update for TeamTalk on Manchester City’s bid to sign Elliot Anderson. Bailey also reports that talks between City and Nottingham Forest are actively underway over a deal that will see Elliot Anderson sign for City. Furthermore, Bailey reports that City are eager to complete the signing of Elliot Anderson ahead of this summer’s World Cup. It is also reported that Nottingham Forest believes that Elliot Anderson should command an extravagant transfer fee. Lastly, Bailey reports that City are willing to beat their current record transfer fee to complete the signing of Elliot Anderson. Manchester City’s record transfer fee is the £100 million they paid Aston Villa to sign Jack Grealish in the summer of 2021.

Manchester City are wasting no time in trying to secure a key signing.

Given how big this upcoming summer transfer window is for Manchester City, it is no surprise to learn that City are moving quickly to attempt to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. Anderson’s stock has risen throughout this season. The England international is one of the elite midfielders in the Premier League, and he also looms as a vital player for England at the upcoming World Cup. City aren’t the only club interested in signing Anderson, so it looks like City are looking to eliminate the possibility of any bidding war or race to sign Anderson unfolding. That is a shrewd move by City, especially if they can sign Elliot Anderson ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Also, City will need to complete their bigger business as quickly as possible this summer. With Pep Guardiola leaving the club and Enzo Maresca likely to replace him, the City hierarchy will want the majority of their major summer moves completed with minimal fuss. That way, Enzo Maresca will know exactly what squad he is working with and can plan for the 2026-27 season accordingly.

Manchester City are pushing hard to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. Ideally, City would like to complete the move ahead of the World Cup. It seems that is what they are trying to accomplish, and it is now a waiting game to see if City can pull that move off.
