Santiago Gimenez has been one of the most discussed names in the final days of the transfer window.
The Mexican striker was persistently linked with Roma, but negotiations never came to fruition.
Fabrizio Romano shed light on the matter on his YouTube channel, retracing the steps of the deal.
According to Romano, Gimenez initially rejected any option, only to open his heart to Roma once Milan put him on the market.
This openness, however, didn’t lead to a white smoke: the two clubs failed to reach an agreement on the formula and financial details of the two-way deal, which also included Artem Dovbyk.
The player never considered the options coming from Turkey and was never a target for Chelsea, who had already decided to focus on Marc Guiu, who had returned from his loan spell at Sunderland.
Gimenez’s choice was clear: to stay at Milan, the club he only joined last January, with the intention of enjoying some important months and not immediately changing his path.
A decision that, Romano emphasizes, was not dictated by disrespect towards Roma, but by the conviction of continuing his adventure with the Rossoneri.
