Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City beat London City Lionesses 2-1 with goals from Kerolin and Bunny Shaw, and England’s Freya Godfrey getting a goal back for the hosts.

But there were also some superstars in the stands as well.

Arsenal pair Beth Mead and Mariona Caldentey – who scored the goals to defeat defending champions Chelsea on Saturday – were there.

And Spain superstars Alexia Putellas and Patricia Guijarro were also on hand. Both had featured in Barcelona’s 2-0 Super Cup win on Saturday, beating Real Madrid to lift the trophy. Indeed, it was Alexia’s penalty in added time that sealed the result.

Barcelona are currently top of the league, having won 16 of their 17 matches so far this season. Their next match is on Sunday, 1st February when they host Sevilla. They then have a Copa de la Reina quarter-final against Real Madrid on Thursday, 5th February.

Alexia Putellas: WSL transfer rumours

Some sources are linking Putellas with a move to England. She is contracted to Barcelona until this summer, with an option of a third year.

At the end of last year, when asked about her future plans, Putellas brushed off any idea that she was concerned about what may happen next, saying: “I’ve always said that I’ll play for Barca as long as the club is interested in it and I feel that I can continue to push myself and squeeze every day to be better.”

She had been linked at the time with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but had opted to stay in Spain.

The two-time Ballon d’Or winner turns 32 next month.
