Manchester City will enter Sunday’s Manchester derby with several key attacking players unavailable due to injury. Omar Marmoush will miss Sunday’s clash with Manchester United due to a knee injury. Rayan Cherki is ruled out of the match due to a thigh injury. There are also question marks surrounding the availability of Phil Foden and Savinho. With so many of Manchester City’s attacking options either unavailable or in doubt for the match, it could be the ideal setting for Jeremy Doku to shine.

Jeremy Doku should start for Manchester City against Manchester United.

With Omar Marmoush out of Sunday’s match, Jeremy Doku is likely the favourite to start on the left wing for Manchester City. The Belgian international has made a slow start to the 25/26 season. Doku scored a brace for Belgium in their 6-nil win over Kazakhstan. So he should enter Sunday’s match in form and full of confidence.

Manchester City will need Doku to fire on Sunday and for the games against Napoli and Arsenal that lie ahead. With Omar Marmoush sidelined for an indefinite period of time, the time is now for Doku to click into gear. It would seem that he will have an opportunity to start on the left wing at least on Sunday, and possibly for longer. If he can click into gear, he could be a match winner for Pep Guardiola’s side. If he can do it against Manchester City’s arch-rivals it could be a big moment for Doku’s confidence. Doku has the talent to do so and would now seemingly have the opportunity. It is up to him to seize it.

Summary.

The injury to Omar Marmoush is a blow for the Egyptian international and for Manchester City. But Marmoush’s misfortune does present Jeremy Doku with an opportunity. If he can fire, he can set himself up for the 25/26 season. His team needs him to, and it will be fascinating to see if Doku can rise to the challenge that awaits. Sunday’s clash with Manchester United could be the ideal setting for Doku to come alive and kick-start his season.
