AC Milan defender Théo Hernandez (27) is on the verge of completing a move from AC Milan to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, according to a report from L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi. The France international left-back is expected to join the Saudi Pro League side in the coming days, with only the final details left to settle. Talks between all parties were well advanced as of Tuesday evening. Milan are reportedly set to receive a fee in excess of €30m, while Hernandez would earn €20m per year. He had initially hoped for a return to Atlético Madrid, but the Spanish club’s financial limitations made a deal with Milan unworkable. The Serie A side were open to Al-Hilal’s proposal.
Hernandez leaves Milan after six seasons, having arrived from Real Madrid in 2019. He made 262 appearances – the most ever for a French player at the club – and scored 34 goals, a club record for a defender. He won the Scudetto in 2022 and lifted the Supercoppa Italiana earlier this year.A transfer to Saudi Arabia could pose a risk to Hernandez’s international future – though precedent exists. N’Golo Kanté returned to the France squad from Al-Ittihad and featured at Euro 2024. With left-back competition limited, Hernandez’s chances of staying in contention are not ruled out.GFFN | George Boxall
