Former goalkeeper Artur Boruc has revealed that he attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City during his playing career.
The 45-year-old elected to hang up his boots in 2022, ending a career that lasted over two decades. He played for Poland for 13 years between 2004-17 and appeared for a variety of notable clubs throughout his time between the sticks.
Boruc first moved to the United Kingdom when Scottish giants Celtic recruited him from Legia Warszawa in 2005. The former goalkeeper spent five years in the nation’s capital before joining Italian club Fiorentina and leaving the latter as a free agent after two seasons.
He made his return to the UK when Southampton secured his signature in 2012. He then moved to AFC Bournemouth on loan in 2014 before joining them permanently a year later.
The former goalkeeper spent six years on the south coast and made over 100 Premier League appearances across his spells with both the Saints and the Cherries.
Despite having an impressive career operating at the very highest level, Boruc has admitted that he may have had opportunities to join Arsenal, Manchester City or AC Milan.
“There was interest from Milan, Arsenal, and Manchester City,” Boruc said in a recent interview with Meczyki.pl, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness.
“Do I regret not joining any of those clubs? No, I don’t – because I wouldn’t have experienced what I experienced.”
On why the move to Milan failed, Boruc added: “At the time, I was my own agent. That says a lot. I could be a better agent. Or just have one.”
The former Poland international did not reveal when Arsenal, Manchester City or AC Milan had interest in him; however, there is a possibility the duo of Premier League clubs may have admired the goalkeeper during his time at Celtic.
Boruc, however, was insistent that he has no regrets about not transferring to either of the two English clubs.
It remains to be seen just how concrete the links between Boruc and these aforementioned top-flight clubs were, but perhaps if he had had an agent at the time, the former Celtic and Fiorentina man may have ended up in sky blue.
