Brentford striker Igor Thiago is on the rampage — and his hat-trick in the Bees’ 4-2 victory at Everton on Sunday saw him enter an exclusive club of Brazilian treblemakers.
The former Club Brugge forward endured a miserable, injury-disrupted introduction to life in west London last season, but he has been nothing short of sensational since the current campaign began. His ruthless treble at Hill Dickinson Stadium lifted him to 14 Premier League goals.
Second only to Erling Haaland (19) in the top-flight scoring charts, Thiago has netted a higher percentage of his team’s goals (44%) than any other player in the division and boasts an eye-catching shot-conversion rate of 31.82%.
The 24-year-old’s first Premier League hat-trick also places him among a select group of Brazilian footballers to have recorded a treble since the competition adopted its current format in 1992/93.
Thiago follows in the footsteps of Afonso Alves, who became the first Brazilian to score a Premier League hat-trick when he struck three times for Middlesbrough against Manchester City during the 2007/08 season.
Since then, only six Brazilians have collected a Premier League match ball — with former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino (twice) the only player to achieve the feat more than once.
