Thiago Mendes has been charged by the STJD for comments made in the mixed zone after Vasco’s defeat to Corinthians at Neo Química Arena on Sunday, in round 13 of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

According to Globo.com, he criticised referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda and has been cited under article 258 of the CBJD, which covers conduct contrary to discipline or sporting ethics. If found guilty, he could be suspended for up to six matches.

Mendes said the referee blew frequently for Corinthians and suggested the home crowd pressure might have influenced decisions.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 Brasília time at the STJD plenary, to be conducted by the third Disciplinary Committee of the Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva.

The complaint characterises his interview as a disrespectful protest towards the officials, implying bias towards Corinthians and deliberate harm to Vasco. It also cites recent similar cases involving Hugo Souza of Corinthians and Jorge Carrascal of Flamengo.

Vasco have also been cited under article 206 of the CBJD for delaying the restart of the second half after a late return from the interval. A fine is possible if the charge is upheld, with the case to be heard in the same session on Thursday.
