Thiago Mendes’ Instagram flooded after clash with Neymar in Santos v Vasco | OneFootball

Vasco midfielder Thiago Mendes faced a barrage of abuse and taunts on social media after the 2-1 defeat to Santos at Vila Belmiro on Thursday in the Brasileirão, when he clashed with Neymar.

According to Globo.com, his Instagram was flooded by users posting pictures of Neymar and comments about Santos’ No 10.

A pinned photo on Mendes’ profile tags Neymar from their time in France with Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain. That post jumped from 3,000 comments to nearly 10,000 interactions.

Many replies included Neymar dance gifs, images of the forward and jibes implying Mendes is a fan.

On the pitch, tempers flared after Neymar scored Santos’ first goal. In a half-time interview, Neymar called Mendes a "babaca". The Vasco player later said he had been disrespected.

The pair have history in France, where they argued during Lyon v Paris Saint-Germain in 2020 after Mendes fouled the Brazilian. Neymar left the field on a stretcher that day.
