Thiago Mendes pictured in medical tests as wife deletes post and later explains joke

Kelly Mendes posted a social media photo of Vasco midfielder Thiago Mendes in a clinic undergoing medical tests. She said he had fallen into a hole on the pitch and gone for checks on an ankle, then deleted the post minutes later.

According to Globo.com, neither Vasco nor the player issued an official comment. Inside the club, the initial line was that he would have tests to assess a possible tendinitis.

After the reaction online, Kelly said it had been a joke and clarified that the exam was not for anything serious.

Mendes is a key figure for Vasco this season. The captain has 26 appearances in 2026, with five goals and one assist.

Vasco are scheduled to face Vitória at Barradão on Thursday 16 July in the Campeonato Brasileiro. It will be their first match since the World Cup break.
