Thiago Silva has left Fluminense before the end of his contract, with the 41-year-old targeting a return to Europe and the Seleçao.
His deal was terminated on Tuesday, with the departure announced on Wednesday. Fluminense were knocked out of the Copa do Brasil by Vasco de Gama on Sunday, 3-4 on penalties after a 1-2 first leg and a 1-0 return.
The former PSG defender came through Fluminense’s academy in 1998, then returned from 2006 to 2008. He rejoined in summer 2024 on a two-year contract after leaving Chelsea.
In his latest spell he made 25 appearances and scored two goals. The club sit fifth in the league.
The former Seleçao captain has 113 caps. He hopes to convince Carlo Ancelotti to pick him for the next World Cup. "I would be lying if I said it was not in my plans," he told France Football this month.
