Thierry Henry criticises Barcelona manager’s stubborn approach in PSG clash | OneFootball

In the aftermath, several analysts have weighed in on what went right and wrong for both sides. Among them was former Barça forward Thierry Henry, who delivered a sharp critique of Hansi Flick’s tactical approach during his analysis on CBS Sports (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Henry, who is often full of praise for Barcelona’s style of play, was critical of the high defensive line deployed against PSG.

“You cannot play in the Champions League with such a high line, I’m sorry. When you play against great teams, you are going to expose yourself. Every simple run can end up in a goal. And that is exactly what happened against PSG. We always mention it, but they didn’t want to change it.”

The Frenchman also suggested that Flick showed unnecessary stubbornness by refusing to adapt to the demands of the occasion.

“Sometimes managers can be obstinate with their strategy, but in important matches, it can be costly.”

However, the problem with this line of criticism is that the high defensive line is only highlighted when Barcelona lose. When it works and the team wins, few acknowledge it as a key part of their success.

With all due respect to Henry, such an argument feels like an oversimplification. The real area Barcelona must improve is their counter-press, which remains the biggest factor in determining how effective this tactical approach can be.
