This weekend sees the Cherries celebrating 125 years as a football club and their old boss looking to spoil those celebrations.

So what can we expect the Newcastle team v Bournemouth to be?

As a starting point, this was the Newcastle team v Southampton:

Pope, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Longstaff, Bruno, Joelinton, J Murphy, Isak, Gordon

Eddie Howe gave an injury and availability update on Friday morning.

The NUFC Head Coach positively reporting no new injuries after that opening game of the season.

However, Eddie Howe still missing at least six players.

Callum Wilson is getting close to returning from his back injury but not ready to face his old club, whilst the longer-term injured trio of Botman, Lascelles and Lewis Miley are all still on the recovery trail as well.

This Bournemouth game is the final one of Sandro Tonali’s suspension.

Whilst it is the first of Fabian Schar’s. Eddie Howe revealing that the club had failed with an appeal on his red card and so Schar will miss this match, plus the next two against Forest and Spurs.

Despite Tonali and the injured quartet, another positive last weekend was the strongest bench for a good while. Meaning Eddie Howe does have a number of positive alternatives if he does want to make changes, over and above the forced Schar one.

That bench v Southampton – Dubravka, Trippier, Barnes, Targett, Krafth, Osula, Almiron, Kelly, Willock

Anyway, my take on all of this after the above, my best guesstimate of the Newcastle team v Bournemouth…

Pope, Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Hall, Longstaff, Bruno, Joelinton, J Murphy, Isak, Gordon

So that would make it only one change, with Emil Krafth replacing the suspended Fabian Schar. I would also be happy to see Lloyd Kelly take Schar’s place alongside Burn, even though two left-footed central defenders wouldn’t be seen as ideal by many fans. However, Krafth did well when he came on against Southampton, so I think he must be the expected replacement.

I think on balance, Eddie Howe will look to start these early matches with a settled side as much as possible, help get the team back into a routine.

Although at the same time, I wouldn’t be amazed if any of Kelly, Almiron, Trippier, Willock or Barnes, got the nod from Eddie Howe.

I did see some fans suggesting Lewis Hall could be replaced but whilst he didn’t have his best game last weekend, I think some of the criticism was over the top. A few uncharacteristic misplaced passes and he was caught out at the back a couple of times, however, I don’t think he was helped by the fact Anthony Gordon wasn’t quite showing the levels of tracking back we have become used to, even when Newcastle still had 11 men on the pitch. I think an extra week’s training and that Southampton match, will see Gordon far closer to full fitness and able to do the full up and down the pitch, so I think he and Hall will be back to working well in tandem.

Even if they do miss out and are on the subs bench again, I think the likes of Barnes, Almiron, Kelly, Trippier and Kelly could be key to helping United get this win, with that bench power potentially proving crucial.
