Habib Beye has called for patience at Stade Rennais after the Roazhon Park faithful showed their frustration with the team during some more conservative moments of the club’s 1-0 victory over nine-man Stade de Reims.

The supporters grew annoyed at times when Rennes failed to press their advantage and add to the scoreline. The hosts instead favoured a more risk-adverse approach that looked to hold onto the three points against a team that played the majority of the game a man down and were entering this game having failed to score in their previous three matches (across all competitions).

Beye, who was only appointed at the start of the month, wanted to relieve some pressure from his players, “I’m not going to stigmatise my attackers because they could have put two or three past Reims.” He continued, “But the reality is we only managed to score once and we won. I said it because I really think it: this team is progressing. And what interests me is progression.”

Under the former Red Star head coach, results have improved. Rennes have won three of their last four games. The only defeat coming at the hands of Olympique de Marseille. Rennes travel south to face bottom of the table Montpellier HSC on Sunday afternoon.
