"This team is screaming out" - Coventry City transfer demand made clear ahead of January | OneFootball

Coventry City's start to the season has been extremely disappointing, and supporters would have been hoping for much more from their team after three relatively successful years in the Championship.

Mark Robins' side had occupied a place in the relegation zone before their fantastic comeback victory over Luton Town on Saturday, but there will still be worries that the win papered over some of the cracks that have been on show over the course of the last two months.

Nevertheless, the nature of it will give the Sky Blues some renewed confidence heading into the next few weeks before the final international break of 2024, when Robins will be able to reassess his squad.

With the January transfer window just two months away, the Coventry manager will already have been planning the moves that he needs to make to strengthen his side for the rest of the campaign.

More experience needed at Coventry

The start of this season has been one to forget at the CBS Arena, but the upcoming window offers the opportunity to right some of the wrongs that were made in the summer, and give Robins the players that he needs to start taking the team in the right direction.

Not many would have predicted the Sky Blues to have had the struggles that they have endured so far, but the campaign is still young and there is plenty of time left to fix it.

Football League World has asked their Coventry Fan Pundit, Ryan Murphy, what two changes need to be made in January to help his team start the fightback.

He told FLW: "The two things I could see happening in the January transfer window is strengthening for sure in central midfield and centre-back.

"We’ve definitely needed an older head in there since McFadzean left, and we've obviously lost Kelly, Godden and all the old guard, they've all gone."

Ryan continued: "This team is screaming out for a bit of experience to help the younger lads through, so I would expect an experienced head to come in and there will be one or two fringe players leaving to make some room."

"So, I'd expect some ins and outs for sure."

Those lacking game-time could leave Coventry in January

It has been a dire opening 12 games for Coventry, there is no denying that. Although the Luton game could be the much-needed turning point, nothing is guaranteed in football and more losses in the coming weeks could be disastrous.

It could be detrimental for those who are struggling for game-time in the West Midlands, such as Fabio Tavares, who is yet to feature in 2024/25.

He played just 180 minutes of football last season, and it will have been an extremely frustrating time for the winger, who may look for a way out of the CBS Arena in January if he does not start to play a bigger part in the team.

Robins will also be looking to his defence for improvements, but some of this comes back to him as he does struggle to settle on a consistent defensive unit. This could be an issue that is recognised by any potential signing, as it is seemingly difficult to lock a place in the starting XI down as a defender at Coventry.
