Thomas Bramall will serve as fourth official for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Manchester City and Arsenal, days after his display in Leeds United’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace came under heavy scrutiny, yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk reports.

Bramall endured a testing afternoon, with several calls debated, notably the dismissal of Gabriel Gudmundsson for two bookings, the second widely viewed as soft.

Gudmundsson collided with Ismaila Sarr on halfway and Bramall swiftly showed a yellow, having already booked the left-back, with Palace players and fourth official Paul Tierney reminding him of the earlier caution.

He did not issue a second yellow to Palace wing-back Brennan Johnson after he tripped James Justin to halt a counter, Johnson’s fourth foul. Bramall awarded Leeds a penalty for a Will Hughes handball and his assistant correctly ruled out a Jefferson Lerma finish for offside.

The final team includes referee Peter Bankes, assistants Neil Davies and Steve Meredith and VAR John Brooks. As standard, they have been removed from domestic league appointments this weekend.

The Selhurst Park decisions have dominated discussion this week. Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher argued Gudmundsson was rightly sent off and Johnson should have stayed on, while other pundits and ex-officials disagreed. Daniel Farke stressed the inconsistency he saw between the two incidents and said Leeds were grateful to leave with a point.
