Thomas Frank ‘massively frustrated’ after Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat against Newcastle | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has praised his players following their 2-1 Premier League defeat against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

The under-fire Danish manager admitted that he was ‘massively frustrated’ not to get a win but couldn’t fault his players, who ‘gave everything’ at home to Newcastle.

Tottenham went behind just before half-time following a Malick Thiaw goal.

They responded just after the hour mark through Archie Gray, but that only lasted four minutes as a well-taken effort from Jacob Ramsey restored Newcastle’s lead.

Tottenham failed to muster another response as they fell to their 11th Premier League defeat of the season, leaving Frank’s position in doubt.

The Danish manager is on borrowed time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While the club are keen to give him time to turn things around, it’s clear that it’s only a matter of time before they’re forced into a managerial change.

Despite the situation, Frank is convinced that his team is fighting to turn things around.

“Of course, we are massively frustrated that we couldn’t get the win today,” Frank said (via BBC). “No doubt about that. I see a team running and fighting out there.

“They gave everything in a tricky and difficult situation against a good team that made it difficult for us, especially in the first half.

There were audible boos and groans around the stadium after the full-time whistle, with the Tottenham fans expressing their frustration at the result.

However, Frank remains convinced that he knows what needs to be done to pull Tottenham out of their rot.

“I understand the frustration,” he added. “It has been building up a little bit – last season it was similar playing Europe and Premier League.

“This season is similar, playing Europe and the Premier League. So there is something in the squad we need to be resilient, mentally and physically.

“I am one hundred per cent sure that it is a team effort, and it is not only one person. We are all aligned, and we know what needs to be done.”
