  • German says no player has approached him yet but doctor ready to conduct medicals if needed

England manager Thomas Tuchel has said he will allow squad members to undergo medicals to complete club transfers at the FIFA World Cup.

Elliot Anderson is City’s leading transfer target for the summer window as the Blues plan for life beyond recently departed club captain Bernardo Silva, with John Stones also on the look out for another club after leaving the Etihad Stadium.

City have recently seen an initial bid for Anderson rejected by Forest, who value the 23-year-old at £100 million, with the former now exploring the possibility of signing Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali as an alternative.

It remains to be seen whether City return with an improved offer for Anderson, who is under a long-term contract at the City Ground and has also attracted interest from Manchester United – albeit having understood a preference to move to the Etihad Stadium.

Tuchel: The doctor is ready to take any medical if needed

Speaking to reporters ahead of England’s FIFA World Cup opening games, Tuchel declared that he will allow his players to undergo medicals in line with camp regulations.

“If anyone has chance to complete a transfer, we’ll not stand in the way, but it has to align with our schedule and goals which is to be focused and prepare for matches,” Tuchel said, as quoted by Mail Sport’s Craig Hope.

“The last day before the match and the second last day, not. Until now, no player approached me. The doctor is ready to take any medical if needed! We’re always happy to help have clarity around the player.”

What does Tuchel’s stance mean for City players at the World Cup?

For City in particular – with Enzo Maresca‘s appointment imminent and a summer of significant recruitment already underway – the flexibility Tuchel is offering could prove practically useful in the weeks ahead.

City director of football Hugo Viana and co are expected to make a firm decision on their pursuit of Anderson, who will be staying abreast of developments on his club future whilst he keeps his full focus on the FIFA World Cup.

The wider significance of Tuchel’s position extends across the entire England squad and touches the transfer plans of multiple Premier League clubs navigating the overlap between the FIFA World Cup and the summer window.
