Despite significant backing in the summer, Ruben Amorim has failed to transform Manchester United’s fortunes on the pitch this season.

The Red Devils have won only three games, while losing five times in all competitions, including a humiliating Carabao Cup second round exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town.

United are currently languishing in 10th place in the Premier League, and there have been multiple calls from ex-players and pundits to give him the boot.

The British media have been quick to churn out multiple articles, linking the whos who of the managerial world with a move to Old Trafford.

Amorim to be given time

However, INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe poured cold water on those reports by stating that he wants to hand Amorim three years to get the house in order.

The British billionaire made a fair point by stating that given the size of the job at hand, the former Sporting CP boss deserves more time and not a knee-jerk reaction.

Whether that will indeed prove to be the case remains to be seen, especially if the team’s form does not pick up soon.

But already names are getting ticked off the checklist. As per The Sun, Thomas Tuchel has been ruled out of coming in to replace Amorim.

Tuchel was in the running

The current England boss had spoken to INEOS when Erik ten Hag was in charge, but both parties did not see eye-to-eye and hence, he was never considered when the Dutchman was eventually dismissed.

“Thomas Tuchel will not come into Manchester United’s consideration if they dismiss Ruben Amorim mid-season.

“England coach Tuchel, 52, was coveted by United when they contemplated sacking Erik ten Hag and he met with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

“However, sources say Tuchel was distinctly unimpressed by United’s process before the FA swooped in to appoint the German as Gareth Southgate’s replacement a year ago.

But not anymore

“Tuchel’s contract as England coach runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup and he is fully expected to see it through.”

The Champions League winner’s style of play is a far cry from Amorim’s, and United cannot afford another transition phase.

They should either stick to the plan or bring in someone who employs a similar style and is not as adamant about not tweaking things as the incumbent.
