Alexis Saelemaekers’ future has been heavily discussed in recent months, but it seems he is no closer to an exit from AC Milan.

Since the Belgian winger’s season took off, there have been very few suggestions that Milan could bring him back to the club as an option. Instead, the situation has always seemed like a stopping point for a move away.

However, Roma are not willing to let the winger go that easily and have continued to press the Rossoneri for some information on his permanent move – considering nothing was actually inserted into the initial deal.

Numerous proposals have been suggested – the latest of which being a swap deal for Tammy Abraham – but nothing has been agreed yet, so a new round of meetings are expected before the season’s end.

Today, TMW director Niccolo Ceccarini has discussed the situation, and what the future holds for Saelemaekers, via Milan News.

“Finally, Roma. The question of the coach (since Ranieri will take on another role within the club) is an absolute priority. The name is kept under wraps but the feeling is that the choice has already been made.

“In the meantime, the Giallorossi club is moving towards some solutions that could be interesting for the future. First of all, the Saelemaekers issue needs to be resolved. The objective would be to keep him for next season and Roma will soon speak with Milan to start a negotiation that could also include Abraham.

“In the meantime, contacts are continuing for the renewal of Svilar [a target for Milan], who is having a truly exceptional season. The goalkeeper has a contract until 2027 but Roma’s objective is to extend it further to protect him. Confidence is filtering through even if for the moment there is no agreement.”

Considering the two clubs will meet shortly in Serie A, there could be chance for a discussion then.
