The two players couldn't be more different in terms of commitment. But as Todd Cantwell’s career looks set for its next problem, there is another warning for Greg Taylor and others at Celtic and beyond. The grass isn't always greener elsewhere. The former Rangers player might be finding that out.
It’s now almost certain that Greg Taylor will leave Celtic this summer. His contract will expire and with no sign of an agreement between player and club, he looks headed for the exit door, just as Kieran Tierney arrives.
Of late Taylor has been kept out of the side by Jeffery Schlupp, a trend likely to continue at least until the league is won. And after that, Tierney will arrive as a free agent, with a pre-contract already agreed.
There has not been any talk in the media about Taylor being unhappy with his current situation. He doesn’t post cryptic messages on social media about his situation. That has never been his style. But that does not mean that an exit could be on the cards.
Elsewhere, Todd Cantwell is having a rough time at Blackburn Rovers. That comes after his departure from Ibrox, after handing in more than one transfer request.
As happened at Ibrox, the manager who signed Cantwell has left Blackburn Rovers. The new boss, Valerien Ismael, doesn't appear impressed by what the midfielder is bringing to the table right now.
Since Ismael arrived, Cantwell has only started two of the French boss’s first five games. And as reported by the Daily Record, the manager said:
"I think we didn't see the best version of him at the minute. He can do more and better. He's able to have an impact on the game."He's an X-factor player. My job with my staff is to make him feel comfortable, to get the best out of him."At some point, you are not any more a talent. There's a danger if you say all the time you speak about the player as a talent, but he's not any more a young player. I think now, with his experience, he's moved to a different club."He has the capability to have the impact, to take responsibility on the pitch. It's my expectation that he takes his role. The best of him is what he can get."
This seems to be a recurring theme for Cantwell throughout his career. Taylor, as mentioned before, is quite different.
Wherever he does sign, if he does indeed leave Celtic, his new club can expect thorough commitment from him. Taylor will give his all on the pitch and off it. But as he and others look at the likes of Cantwell, Kyogo, Matt O’Riley, and others, the warnings on what can go wrong with a move away from Glasgow are very apparent, as things out of your control can also have an impact.
